Bates County, Missouri is located on US
Highway 71/I-49 in West Central Missouri along the Missouri -
Kansas Border, about 70 miles south of Kansas City. Bates
County has a rich history in the Civil War. Butler, the
County Seat, lays claim to being the "Electric City." Butler
was the first city west of the Mississippi to have electric
